Din Tai Fung (鼎泰丰) @ The Gardens

Monday, January 24, 2011

I've almost forgotten this pending post until I blog about my birthday. Anyway, it is never too late to share good foods :) It was my first time dine in Din Tai Fung - The Gardens branch. Thanks to Ken for the invitation and thanks for the hospitality from the staff of Din Tai Fung.

A little info about Din Tai Fung (鼎泰丰):
Din Tai Fung is an award-winning restaurant originating in Taiwan, specialising in xiaolongbao (small steamed buns). Beside Taiwan, they also have its restaurant chains in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States. *source from wiki*

When we arrived at Din Tai Fung around 10am, I was kinda shock because early in the morning, there were quite a number of customers.

They have refurbished the shop and now it is looking better.

If you would like to have a private room like this, please let the staff know.

Before proceed to xiao long bao, let's have a look at the appetizers which prepared by them. Personally, I really like their appetizers and most importantly it is at a reasonable price - start from RM3.80 per plate.

House Special Appetizer -招牌小菜 (RM 3.80)
One of my favourite. Highly recommended by me. It taste sweet and a bit sour at the same time. :)

Spicy Jelly Fish - 海蜇丝 (RM 7.00)

Golden Pumpkin with Salted Egg - 咸蛋金瓜 (RM 3.80)

Japanese Cucumber - 日本青瓜 (RM 3.80)

Stewed Beancurd with Honey Sauce - 烤麸 (RM 7.00)
I'm quite surprise with this dishes. It taste quite special & sweet when you first bite the beancurd.

Shanghainese Drunken Chicken - 上海醉鸡 (RM 12.80)
It was cooked with rice wine and served cold.

Hold on the saliva. Below are the main dishes - different kinds of xiao long bao that available in Din Tai Fung. Be sure to spare some space in your tummy after having the appetizers.

Chicken Xiao Long Bao - 鸡肉小笼包 (RM 9.80 / 6pcs)

Baby Xiao Long Bao - 小笼汤包 (RM 13.80 / 12pcs)
Mini xiao long bao that served together with the soup.

There are 12 pcs and when I say mini, it really means mini. The size of this baby xiao long bao is slightly a little bit bigger than 50cents.

This is the method to eat baby xiao long bao. Put 2 or 3 or more baby xiao long bao in a bowl, then add in the soup with eggs floss. Served and eat it together with the soup. *slurpssss*

p/s: Unfortunately, baby xiao long bao only available at Din Tai Fung - Pavilion branch. 2pm to 6pm on weekdays and 11am-1pm on weekend.

Truffle Xiao Long Bao - 松露小笼包 (RM 12.00 / 2pcs)

The price is slightly expensive compare to other xiao long bao. But this is not chicken xiao long bao or the normal one we had before. It is TRUFFLE xiao long bao. Worth to try it if you didn't have before.

Shrimp & Pork Fried Rice - 虾仁肉丝蛋炒饭 (RM 15.00)
It look exactly the normal fried rice we had outside or we cook ourselves. Surprisingly, it smells aromatic and really delicious.

Mini Sesame Bun - 迷你芝麻包 (RM 5.50 / 3pcs)

It served while it is still hot and it taste yummy!

Yam Paste Xiao Long Bao - 芋泥小笼包 (RM 7.50 / 6pcs)

The filling was so contented and Din Tai Fung is not stingy with the ingredients they use.
p/s: As I know, you will get this for free if it is your birthday. So, let them know by showing them your IC. It depends on which filling they will give, maybe yam or red bean.

When I'm about to leave, the restaurant was fully seated and crowded. Their business is really good~!

Open kitchen where you will see how they wrap and steam the xiao long bao.

SEE!~ So crowded and customer have to queue up wait to be seated.
p/s: How come the aunt show me "beh song" face. haha

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Din Tai Fung did gave me a good impression in terms of serving good & delicious foods. I will come back again. Actually, I'm already been here for 2 times in a month to celebrate my birthday and bf mum's birthday :)
