Head off to Kim Ma Cantonese Fusion Restaurant at Palace of the Golden Horses if you wanna have a different and unique reunion dinner with the loved ones, family or friends.

This was my first CNY food review and I was impressed with the uniqueness & presentation of the foods that prepared by Chef Roy Wong. The creation of the foods were out of the box and creative. 

The award winning Kim Ma Cantonese Fusion Restaurant, an exotic oriental restaurant in town serves contemporary Cantonese cuisine that will definitely tempt your taste buds. Kim Ma which is named after the noble character of Golden Horse has a subtle and relaxing dining ambience.  

The interior of the restaurant is designed in typical orient ornate with minimal and tasteful trappings. 

We're going to sample the Chinese New Year set menu 1 (祥龙报喜宴) at RM880.00++ per table of 8 to 10 people - 9 course meal.

Yee Sang no longer strange to us coz it is a MUST in our reunion dinner. The higher we toss, the greatest of our luck in the year of 2012? That's the tradition and the meaning. To me, is just a fun part to toss with the family and friends.

Kim Ma’s Appetizer Combinations

We were so impressed with the creation of the appetizer that night. When the chef placed the appetizer on the table, all of us "WOW!" and can't take our eyes off from this colourful, unique and special dishes. One of the main attraction was the horses in different lighting. It has enhanced the beauty of the appetizer as well.

One the left, it was the Japanese octopus, vege & noodle (yee mee) stuffed inside the sweet tofu skin. The combination of Chinee & Japanese taste not bad overall, the taste blend well and it's just simply yummy & refreshing.

On the right, the combination of egg yolk, seaweed and meat that looks like an egg. At the bottom of the "egg" was smashed potato. Couldn't deny that Chef Roy is a creative chef who will always bring surprises on the dishes he ser

(鮑有盈魚) 鱼漂翅炖雞盅湯
Double-Boiled Minced Chicken Broth with Fish Maw and Shark’s Fin

A flavourful soup that will always in your mind once you taste it. There's a soft layer at the bottom of the soup, and all of us thought it was a layer of tofu. It was actually minced chicken that taste like tofu because of its softness. This is another awesome creation of Chef Roy. Thumbs up!

Palace’s Special Roasted Chicken and Baked Chicken Chop with Black Sesame Sauce

If you didn't read the name of the dish, you will thought that it was fish meat. Baked chicken chop with black sesame sauce was kinda crunchy and the smell of the sesame did enhance the taste. For the roasted chicken, it just a simple one and taste good.

Sautéed Tiger Prawns and Fish Fillet with Superior Fish Broth and Vermicelli 

It looks like the "wat dan hor" - chinese noodle, coz of its thick & brownie gravy. The combination of the tiger prawns and fish was good as it taste balanced and most importantly, the meat was fresh!

Or known as "nian gao" (年糕) in mandarin. Nian Goa has always been my favourite, especially the deep fried glutinous cake with the yam or sweet potato. This is also one of the tradition, must have it during Chinese New Year.

All of us were satisfied over the dinner that served by Chef Roy. Led by Chef Roy Wong, he is best known for his modern interpretation of Cantonese cuisine in a fine dining presentation. Usher in the year of the Dragon with a specifically prepared range of Chinese New Year Set menu catered for various guests’ preferences. Prices range from RM880.00++, RM988.00++, RM1,188.00++ and RM1,488.00++ per table of ten respectively.

The promotion is valid from 9th January till 6th February 2012. In addition, one cannot leave without having Loh Hei or tossing high the Yee Sang hoping for abundance of health, wealth, luck and prosperity.  Be tantalized for a medley of Yee Sang selection: Salmon Yee Sang, Salmon & Soft Shell Crab Yee Sang and Salmon & Pacific Clam Yee Sang.

  1. Wow, I must say all the dishes are very innovative. Just wondering what is the ball shape thing in the Yee Sang? Of all I like the 'nian gao' dish most, too much creativity in it.

  2. RM880 is really worth for such an array of creative foodstuff. i love the presentation of the nian gao which looks like the butter skin of pineapple tarts, hahas! enjoy more lou sang coming your way :)

    every dish was yummeh that night. i expected the noodles to be salty like may other places. but this is amazing. i supposed Chef Roy being a healthy person also ensure his dishes are healthy and yummy.

    and all the foods looks really nice! but cheapest RM880.. which is not so cheap for me. =S

    Indeed, the environment is cosy and they have VIP room too. By paying RM880 for good and quality foods is quite worth it. You get what you pay, same goes to other things. hehe
