[PENANG] 3D2N relaxing weekend getaway

Friday, December 18, 2015

After the happening November, there are more outings, and road trip in December. I can't wait to share the highlights of my Penang trip after I'm back on last Sunday. This trip is not about makan-makan and in fact, I didn't eat all the Penang must-try food such as Penang Laksa, Cendol, fried oyster.... and so on.

Usually, I will stay in budget hotel, bed & breakfast, or capsule hotel. For this time, we stay in a much better hotel - Lone Pine in Batu Ferringhi. Do you remember the Hong Kong TVB drama Outbound Love《单恋双城》? Most of the scene in the drama was filmed at this beachside boutique hotel which still infused with the colonial spirit and idyllic charm.  Thus, this is one of the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Hello Penang.

It was the Selangor public holiday on Friday, the traffic was slow and it was raining throughout our journey to Penang which took almost 5 hours. We decided to cure our hungry stomach first before enter into the city center. I quickly seek recommendation from Mr Google on what is the best place for some good food at this odd hour @ 4pm - 5pm.

B Garden Cafe was the previous name (which I read on the blog), and now they changed the name to Keat Garden Cafe. You may look for some trademark here, such as same row as Lam Wah Ee Hospital or this hawker center place beside Eve Cake House. There are few stalls in this hawker center and after reading some blog post, one of the dishes that attracted me was the beef noodle.

This beef soup noodle is not as good as I thought, the price is really expensive, RM8 per bowl!! The portion was so small, soup was really little also (not even half of the bowl). I will not recommend to try this, anyway, the chilli sauce is nice.

I would rather to have this, seriously. There's a malay / indian stall selling this nasi lemak pack at RM1.30 only. So cheap and taste so good! I went to buy another pack after finish one pack.

After our quick lunch / tea time, we headed to Batu Ferringhi, time to check-in.

Juices were served upon our arrival.

The lobby.

Our comfortable room, with a balcony.

That's the balcony, a sofa bed and there's a open concept bath tub on the left. How nice right?

There was a Christmas event organized by Lone Pine, all the guest were welcome to join the merry moment together. Food & free flow of cocktails for all the guest, we enjoyed the 1 hour caroling too. Such a good hospitality offer by them.

After the Christmas event, we walked around the hotel and enjoying the night breeze. Almost every corner of the hotel decorated with fairies lights.

I will share more about Lone Pine Hotel in another post.

We went to the beach after our breakfast the next day.

We took our own sweet time to explore the hotel, from their lobby, to "lepak" corner (reading corner actually), game room, souvenir shop, the garden to the swimming pool area. After that, enjoy our me-time in the room by resting on the sofa bed @ balcony.

For this trip, I shortlisted 2 cafe to visit. Awesome Canteen @ Sekeping Victoria is one of them.

Cozy environment that I really love it. That's the reason I wanna visit Awesome Canteen.

It was around 3pm and it wasn't crowded, the owner might be sad to have such less crowd. But to me, I really enjoy my time here as it is not noisy.

I ordered on of their signature cake - marshmallow cheesecake. Thumb up!

Colourful Chinese oil-paper umbrellas at Lebuh Armenian.

On the same day, I visited another cafe which recommended by a friend - Macallum Connoisseurs Coffee Company is the name. She told me the bagel here is really nice, I quickly google to read the review written by the bloggers. Most of the bloggers recommended the salmon bagel. YUM YUM!! I can't wait to try that.

Macallum Connoisseurs Coffee Company is a academy as well where there will be classes from time to time. I will blog more about it in another post. :)

Good news is... they are open every day!!! rain or shine.

Mon-Sun: 09:00 - 00:00

If you haven't known, I'm currently working for a shopping mall in Subang. Thus, I'm not forgetting to visit the mall in Penang to explore how is other malls are doing. For example, how they decorate the mall for this festive season, or what are the marketing campaign that they are having now. #jobsickness

This is Gurney Paragon @ Penang, the theme is Madagascar.

Spotted the HUGE bear in Gurney Paragon mall. This is for CSR campaign purposed. I read from The Star newspaper today, they had raised a total RM10,000. (of course, the company do top-up).

I spotted this amazing and beautiful Christmas decorations right opposite of Gurney Paragon.

Merry Christmas from the Disney team. So beautiful, so astonishing, it looks like you're in the Disneyland. Many cars were stop-by the road side and take pictures.

Mid-night supper @ one of the mamak nearby our hotel.
This nasi goreng USA cost RM12. So expensive kan?

Breakfast on the third day in Penang.
That's pouched eggs! I was so excited and the pouched eggs were nicely done by the chef. YUM!

As usual, jalan-jalan again by the beach after breakfast.

Time to check-out from this lovely hotel.

I heard Starbucks open a new outlet by the beach @ Batu Ferringhi. So, I went to check out and have a cup of Christmas drinks first before departing to KL.

I'm sure there will be many people will be sitting at the al-freso area at night as it will be very chilling but definitely a big NO NO during day time.

That's the beach... from Starbucks.

Having my favourite peppermint mocha frap.

Bye Penang.
till we meet again.
